The International Snow Sculpture Championships ARE BACK!

The Breckenridge Snow Sculpture Championships kicked off with a BANG (a miniature cannon) in the Riverwalk parking lot - right behind our office - today!

Twelve teams from six countries compete by carving 12-foot-tall, 25-ton monoliths of snow into breathtaking sculptures using ONLY hand tools. The work is exhausting, and the end results are amazing! Artists this year have travelled from Ecuador, Germany, Italy, Lithuania and Mexico. Additionally, six U.S. teams will showcase their art at this year’s event. The athletic artists will carve all week until the whistle blows at 9am on Friday, January 28 and judging commences. Many of the sculptors will work through the night on Thursday to meet the deadline.

All Five Peaks are Open at Breckenridge Ski Resort!

After a bit of a sluggish start to the ski season, winter conditions have improved tremendously and as of yesterday Peaks 6-10 are now ALL open! The Imperial Express SuperChair (the highest lift in North America) loaded passengers Sunday for the first time this year and the Falcon SuperChair on Peak 10 opened yesterday. Both openings thrilled skiers and riders with loads of soft powder under blue bird skies.

Breck now has 73% of its terrain open with the lifts running from 8:30am – 4pm daily. They have reported 136 inches of snow so far this season and currently have a base of 48 inches. Not bad for early January!

The Lights of Breckenridge

Ever since the formal “Lighting of Breckenridge” event earlier this month the center of town has been aglow each and every night with more than 250,000 LED holiday lights. The scene is extraordinary and one of the most photographed of anywhere in town. It’s awesome to see friends and families gather in Blue River Plaza for special moments together… wedding proposals included! Make time to stroll through and experience it for yourself sometime this winter.

Mountain Community

This morning I saw this Letter to the Editor in our local paper, the Summit Daily News, and I am thankful for how connected our little community is.

I’m proud to be part of Breckenridge Associates Real Estate where we support not only the Summit High School Mountain Bike team but also youth softball, hockey and soccer. We offer two local scholarships each year to graduating seniors, we host the Breckenridge Film Festival opening night films each fall and our ski area medallion purchases support our county’s largest nonprofit, the Summit Foundation.

If you are ever looking for information on local nonprofits I’d love to help. This Thanksgiving I’m grateful for a small mountain community that strives to make life better for everyone in it!

Wake Up Breck

Snow is falling and folks are getting excited about hitting the slopes! Here’s one great way to kick off Breckenridge Ski Resort’s 60th Anniversary celebration season.

On Thursday, November 11 at 7:30 am the Ski Area will bring back the popular Wake Up Breck event! Pick up your free coffee mug at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new South Gondola Parking Structure and then swing into a local coffee shop to fill it up with a free cup of joe. These mugs cannot be purchased. The ONLY way to get one of these coveted cups is to show up for the event.

Both the ski resort and the parking garage are slated to open on Friday, November 12.

Arapahoe Basin is Open for the Season!

Blue skies, sunshine, smiles and SKIING! That was the scene this past Sunday at Arapahoe Basin; the first ski resort to open in Summit County. The Black Mountain Express chair fired up at 8:30 am carrying eager skiers and riders up to the top of the intermediate level High Noon Run. A-Basin was the second ski area to open in the state right behind Wolf Creek in southwest Colorado.

Founded in 1946, Arapahoe Basin is celebrating their 75th birthday this year. Hard to imagine that they opened so very long ago with just one tow rope and lift tickets priced at $1.25. These days they open 9 lifts and 145 runs in the heart of the winter.

Fall Is Upon Us

The mountain air is crisp and the leaves are changing!

The French Gulch trails and mountainsides have been gorgeous with leaves of vibrant gold, orange and red. We got a dusting of snow yesterday on the ski area and today we’re back to a brilliant blue sky.

If you ever need some tips on hiking or biking trails in the area just let us know. We’d love to share our favorites with you!

The New FREEDOM SUPERCHAIR at Breck!

Could skiing on Peak 7 really get any better? How can you improve on the glades, the rolling terrain, the wide-open runs, powder day steeps and the 6-person Independence Chair? This winter, in honor of Breckenridge Ski Resort’s 60th Birthday, the new FREEDOM SUPERCHAIR will be unveiled!

The new lift will open as soon as there’s enough early season snow and will provide skiers and riders easy access to Peak 6, 7 and 8 terrain. The new Freedom SuperChair is located on the north side of Peak 7 and will transport guests from just below the Lincoln Meadows and Monte Cristo trail merge to the top of the comfortable and welcoming Pioneer Crossing restaurant. I can’t wait to check it out!

Town of Breckenridge Ordinance Cap/Freeze on new Short Term Rental licenses and Summit Unincorporated Moratorium on Short Term Rental Licenses

The Summit REALTORS® Board of Directors thanks the community, clients, and members who stood up during the marathon of a hearing Tuesday evening (five and a half hours!) to discuss a significant series of changes to short-term rentals in the Town of Breckenridge. Due to our joint advocacy, we are pleased to say that one of the measures the real estate community needed to improve the proposal was included.  While the Mayor supported our ideas to address properties under contract or under construction, and the idea of tourism overlay districts, there was no effort by the Council to make any additional changes to the ordinance.
