Celebrating its 52nd year, come celebrate the snow next week at the annual Ullr Fest.  January 11th through the 17th, the town of Breckenridge turns upside down and the party begins. Don’t be surprised to see people walking around town with Viking horns. It is a week full of fun and free events.Â
Ullr is the Norse winter god. He loved the cold and would travel across the country on his skis or skates. He was so good on his skis that no one could ever keep up with him. Each winter, he would cover the country with snow to protect himself while he would enjoy hunting. The sky would be streaked, leaving brilliant stars in his path, known to create some of the best powder days. After years of travel, Breckenridge became a great place for Ullr to call home. He fit right in to living the mountain lifestyle. And every year, he blesses Breckenridge with some the best snow in North America.Â
The locals really appreciate the 300 plus inches of snow, so to show their gratefulness, there is an annual party to Ullr. As the years have come and gone, the traditions held during Ullr Fest have evolved. Come enjoy the week full of activities from the Ullr ball, Ullr Parade (which is a parade unlike any traditional parade), and the Ullr bonfire. I hope to see you around next week, enjoying some waist deep powder and thanking Ullr.Â
